Introducing Swainson's Hawk, a popular resident of the Great Plains. These powerful raptors were named after the first artist to document them, William John Swainson. In this lesson, David demonstrates how to capture the rich russet tones of Swainson's Hawk. Explore layered feathering techniques that contrast a simple, effective, vignette.
For years David has searched for ways to make his brush more casual. How do you catch the impression of a painting while letting the edges and colors relax? He developed the Paint It Simply approach that encouraged students to loosen up with casual painting styles. Now, David has designed a concept that works within the guidelines of Paint It Simply. By Painting Through Color, artists concentrate on color, warm/cool tones, and movement before establishing the edges of objects. This is a wonderful, very fun way to begin a painting! Start your Painting Through Color journey with this 2-hour lesson designed for the Creative Corner. Here, David works at a slower painting speed so you can see and study the technique. Learn to move warm and cool color through your painting using new colors and techniques. Concentrate on color before shape!

Those of you who have been asking for portraits. Here they come! This first portrait is the little girl Jacques is coming to our S201 Color Theory class in late July. The Lady is coming as an independent class in mid July. They use different acrylic techniques. If you want to paint Jacques you can sign up now for the S201.
